What Are The 5 Stages of Spiritual Awakening?

Spiritual awakening. If you are like me, you might be wondering what it is. And what are the stages of spiritual awakening?

This second question is the one we will explore in today’s post. And to do this, I’ll introduce you to The Awakening Tree, which represents the journey of spiritual awakening. The roots, trunk, small and big branches, fruit, and leaves of the tree represent various stages. So, let’s dive right into it.

Stages of spiritual awakening

Stage 1: The Roots of Awakening

The first stage of spiritual awakening is also known as “The Dark Night of The Soul.” This is a time when you might feel a sense of loss and disconnection. You could also be questioning your beliefs and purpose. It’s a time of emotional pain, anxiety, or even depression. Yet, it’s necessary and a foundation for your spiritual awakening journey, just like the roots of a tree are the source for its life.

The roots of the awakening tree represent your past experiences, trauma, and healing. They are the beginning of the journey. And even if you feel like you are not experiencing anxiety and depression, it does not mean you are not in the first stage of awakening. Questioning your beliefs and purpose is often referred to as a mid-life crisis. Sounds familiar?

We all seek a deeper purpose and understanding of why we are here. While many start their spiritual awakening journey because of a trauma, others awaken by just questioning the norms and the purpose of it all.

Stage 2: The Trunk of Self-discovery

Just like a tree with strong roots can develop a strong trunk, the first stage of spiritual awakening sets the ground for the second phase.

This second stage of spiritual awakening is where a profound shift happens. You might start feeling a sense of peace and purpose. You could even begin to notice coincidences and a new direction for your life. It’s a time of awakening and self-discovery.

The trunk is a reminder that all growth needs a strong sense of self-discovery and empowerment. You need to look inside. Through reflection and introspection, you can start asking yourself deep and
meaningful questions to uncover your passions, interests, values, and desires. This process of self-discovery is essential for understanding who you truly are and what brings you joy.

While you might still need to work on the roots and heal from past experiences, you have entered a stage where you shift your focus from a victim or anger mentality to a strong sense of self. You move from feeling like you are powerless and blaming others to taking actions that help you carve your own path. In other words, you take personal responsibility for your own life and spiritual journey.

Stage 3: The Big Branches of Integration

The third stage of spiritual awakening is a phase of integration where you start to incorporate your insights into your lifestyle and daily activities. You might start feeling balance and harmony. Your relationships and connections are getting stronger. It’s a time when your life starts feeling more authentic and purposeful.

The big branches of the awakening tree represent this chapter of the journey. They are a reminder that knowledge on its own is not power. Applied knowledge is power.

Often, in this stage, you start taking time to celebrate your achievements and acknowledge the positive changes you have made. You also move high on the levels of consciousness from strong personal responsibility to caring for others and even finding opportunities where everyone wins. Your inner sense of peace and optimism opens new doors for you. You start seeing others as capable and find ways to empower them to walk their own path.

Higher Levels of Consciousness

Stage 4: The Small Branches of Expansion

And just like the big branches of the tree support the small ones, the third of the stages of spiritual awakening holds the space for the fourth one. This part of the journey is all about expansion. You start experiencing a sense of oneness with the universe and all beings. Your intuition could get even stronger, and you might experience a calling to serve and make the world a better place for all.

It’s a time when you start transcending the ego. Life turns into a game that cannot be won or lost, only played. Your perception expands beyond the limits of the physical world and the judgments that come with it. You feel and know deep inside that we are all one. We are manifestations of the same universal entity and power, experiencing life in various ways.

Stage 5: The Fruits and Leaves of Joy and Freedom

Last but not least, the fifth stage of spiritual awakening is where you transcend entirely the limitations of the ego. You might experience oneness with the divine and a sense of liberation. It’s a time of joy and fulfillment in your spiritual journey.

The fruit and leaves of the awakening tree represent this final stage of the journey. And they are also a reminder that spiritual awakening is a journey. You never get there. Just like a tree changes its leaves and bears fruits in cycles, your awakening is a neverending experience. You tap into the highest levels of consciousness and then move down to the lower levels. It’s natural. Part of the cycle of life.

Yet, once you reach the stage of joy and freedom, there is no going back. Your consciousness is expanded. You can’t unsee what you have seen. You are now able to be the creator. Even if you are not maintaining this state consistently, you can always tap back into it.
